Run In Shed
Full Pasture Care

Horses living on Full Pasture Care spend their days and nights in our pastures with access to bedded South facing run in sheds with overhangs that keep the weather out.
Nelson Automatic Waterers are located within 15 feet or less of run in shed openings.
Fifty pound mineral blocks and salt licks are available in run in sheds & five pound bricks are available in stalls.
Small hay bales are fed in slow feed hay nets providing hay 24/7. We feed hay every day that horses are interested in eating hay.
Hay nets are located inside and outside the sheds except during inclement weather when haynets are placed inside sheds and under the six or eight foot shed overhangs.
Depending on the personalities of the herd anywhere from one to three horses will eat off one bag. There is always enough bags strategically placed so that every horse can access a bag. We do not allow horses to be driven away from hay nets without the option of another bag to eat from undisturbed.
All horses requiring additional feed in addition to pasture/hay are brought in to box stalls or an individual paddock to be fed separately. Because some horses will not eat well in a stall we feed these horses separately in a paddock where they can see their buddies.
Supplements & medications are administered at no charge with owners billed for the cost of each additive. Farm reorders at no charge.
Farm arranges and holds horses for all health care visits at no charge. Vet & Farrier fees are billed to the owner.
We have only one difference in our level of care, and that is some owners choose to have their horses utilize a stall at night in winter or during the day in summer. Their is no other difference. All horses receive Full Care.

Horses who prefer a stall - and some do no matter how many years they are retired- or owners who prefer their horse to have a stall live in our pastures with access to run in sheds during their time in the pastures, then during the day in summer or at night in winter.
Owners can also choose to have their horse utilize a stall only during severe weather such as winter storms, heavy rain, or excessive heat.
The benefits of a stall in summer include having their private fan.
Some horses also enjoy having their own time alone in their own stall.
Your Retired Horse's life is very similar to the life they lived during their working career except for two major differences:
They live in a herd situation when not in their box stall;
They live in a significantly larger turnout area than they did during their working life.

Full Pasture Care, Private Turnout
Full Care Personalized For Your Retired Horse
Private Turnout
Full Pasture Care
Some horses due to health issues or behavior issues require individual turnout. Some examples include horses with limited or no vision, a horse such as Smokey whose attachment to our mini donkeys required that he be kept with his "babies", or a horse such as Houdini, who for his first year of retirement was very uncomfortable in a large area.
Horses requiring Individual Turnout are able to do so in our small paddock, "Pony Prison" which has access to other grass paddocks or our one acre pasture.
Horses on private turnout, depending on their individual needs and requirements, are given turnout time in our larger pastures.
Reserve Your Horse's Retirement Today
Peace of Mind is Priceless.
At Orchard Equine Retirement we have been providing Full Care Horse Retirement since 1988. We know that retiring horses is so much more than turning a horse out in a pasture.
Much more. We understand and respect the special relationship owners have with their horses. We understand how difficult it is to separate from your partner and friend.
We've been there. Lying awake at night wondering if they are being fed properly. If they are standing out in the weather, or are they comfortable inside their box stall or run in shed with their buddies.
It is that very relationship with a horse named Prince and the failed search for a horse retirement farm where he could safely retire, that inspires us to this day.
We look forward to discussing the retirement you want for your horse. Please include your horse's name in your message!
Our Rates
We offer flat rate and itemized billing. Clients choose which method best suits their horse's needs and their preferences. Call or send a message to reserve your horse's retirement at the farm that continues to set the standard in horse retirement.
Sincerely,
Christine, Jack, and Sarah
