Residents Gone to Greener Pastures

Loved and Sadly Missed

THIS PAGE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. IMAGES & STORIES TO BE ADDED

Thirty years of horses who became part of our family when they retired to Orchard Equine Retirement. The hardest part of boarding retirees is saying good-bye. After thirty years it does not get easier, only harder to say good-bye.

We are grateful to their owners for letting us to share in loving their horses.

Residents Gone to Greener Pastures: Team Members

Molly

Arizona

Molly came to us in 2008 with her friend CJ. Molly definitely wins the award for one of the sweetest horses. Molly just loved attention and especially enjoyed having under her

Monti

TB Gelding

Monti came to us from Long Island where his owner wanted Monti, a former lesson horse to never work again and to enjoy being a horse.

Monti met and immediately became very infatuated with our pony Jenny. Monti had never really had friends, and to have such an attractive pony as his friend, well what more could one want for their retired horse?

Monti Was diagnosed with EOTRH. The disease eventually caused Monti to lose weight despite all efforts. Monti joined his beloved Jenny on February 9, 2018

Prince's Reckoning
"Little Prince"

Hunter/Jumper
Long Island, NY

Ch OTTB Gelding

If ever a horse made himself felt, Prince did. Retired at eighteen when his owner, Hillary, fulfilled her promise to him. Hillary had promised Prince that if he made her dreams come true, she would retire him at eighteen.

One week after Prince arrived Hillary came down for a visit. She saddled Prince and took him for a ride returning 15 minutes later. As she dismounted Hillary declared,

"in fifteen years this horse has never been barn sour. He is barn sour now!"

Every year on his birthday Hillary sent Prince his favorite treats, Pop Tarts.

Prince's spontaneous neighing as he broke into a gallop and raced across the field are sorely missed.

Prince is laid to rest in the Apple Orchard with his favorite cribbing buddy by his side, Princess CJ. His grave was situated so that as the remaining members of his herd pass away they will all be buried next to him.

Tank

Quarter Horse Gelding

1970 - April 2000

"A horse with a sense of adventure. Given a choice, he would always pick the new, unexplored trail. He was an escape artist who kept us busy upgrading gate and door hardware. He loved to visit the neighbors in the middle of the night and was accused of heavy breathing outside of bedroom windows. Alternatively, he would raid the garden, taking big bites out of ripe cantaloupes and stealing tomatoes."

Jane and Gil Bartholomew

Favorite Buddies -Misty & Pepsi

He's Amazing Too "Junior"

Chestnut TB Gelding
Long Island, NY

Junior used to accompany his brother to shows because when separated he became so distressed he coliced.

Junior arrived in 2002 with very limited vision. He depended on us to lead him from his stall to his pasture. Junior became friends with Pepsi and Misty.

Jake

 OTTB Gelding / New Jersey

Loved by Marge, Gus & all of us here at Orchard Equine Retirement. We will miss your nicker in the morning and the way you licked everybody who gave you treats...

Before being laid to rest Gus was given the opportunity to say goodbye to his friend. Gus nuzzled his face and muzzle as he did so often in life and then blew into Jake's nostrils before giving his buddy one last nuzzle. Gus watched as his friend was laid to rest under the apple trees.
We miss you Jake...
